At UEA, we focus on our core values and the ability of our employees to live these values every day. The success of our company culture aligning with our core values begins with our recruiting and hiring process.
When we are looking to bring on new employees, hard skills such as industry knowledge and previous experience are an essential component of the selection process. We also try to ensure that candidates have the necessary soft skills to succeed in their role at any level. Soft skills are cultivated skills a person has, such as social skills, communication, and a positive mindset. These soft skills link directly to our core values and are good indicators that the candidate will integrate into our company culture.
“Ninety-seven percent of employers surveyed said that soft skills were either as important or more important than hard skills. However, 46 percent of new employees fail within 18 months and of these, 89 percent fail because of a lack of soft skills, such as professionalism or the ability to get along with others,” according to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
UEA embraces our core values in everyday activities because it allows the company to foster a positive work environment leading to high levels of innovation and growth for all our employees.
