UEA Partners with In State Schools

One of the many advantages of being a Midwest manufacturer is the ability to work with state universities. United Equipment Accessories is located about 100 miles away from both Iowa State University and the University of Iowa and is less than 20 miles away from the University of Northern Iowa. UEA has had successful partnerships with UNI and ISU while also utilizing a few resources from the U of I as well. As someone who has worked first hand with the Universities' students and staff, it has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

Iowa State is one of the nation's top engineering schools. Recently, UEA was able to sponsor a successful Materials Engineering Capstone Course. It was amazing to watch the students grow. Most start the class not knowing who UEA is or what we do. Then by the end, they are experts and offer new and creative ideas for improvements. Using advanced equipment and their nearly complete highly technical degrees, two groups of students recently examined our slip ring design. Their goal was the same as ours always has been: make the product last longer and perform better for current applications and future needs. Throughout the process the students have the opportunity to work projects related to their field of study. Essentially they take everything they learned with their first three and a half years of college and apply it to real world problems. These courses are structured with both myself, as a mentor, and a professor on staff at the university, to give the students guidance along the way. With the exceptional results from the previous capstone, we are looking forward to sponsoring an Industrial Engineering Capstone Course next year and future opportunities with all three colleges.
