Transmission Controls Information
What is a transmission control?
A
transmission controller or gear shifter is used to electrically control
an automatic transmission. Through an electric signal an automatic transmission is energized
to change direction or speed. UEA transmission controls are primarily used
in off highway vehicles.
How does an automatic transmission gear shifter work?
Single or multiple electric signals are sent from custom designed rotary switch contact
logic to the transmission. The transmission logic module reads the signal(s) and
sends an impulse to the electro-hydraulic control valves mounted on the transmission. Depending
on the logic, the transmission is actuated to change direction, Forward, Neutral, and Reverse
or change speeds for 1 - 8 gears.
What construction is used for UEA transmission controls?
All materials used in UEA transmission controls are corrosion and UV resistant. The housing
with gate pattern is a super tough nylon with a textured finish. Levers are stainless steel
with tamper resistant knobs. Finally the electrical rotary switches are environmentally sealed
and rated for in excess of 1 million cycles.
What are our configurations for transmission controls?
UEA controllers are either console or column mounted. The number of gear positions and gate
patterns are all customized to specification. Gate patterns can be a single lever straight,
single lever U-pattern, or dual lever to individually control direction and speed separately.
Each electrical rotary switch is manufactured to the exact electrical logic of the customer
specification. Wiring from the switch is again to customer and specification and may include
multi-pin environmental connectors. Another option available on UEA shifters is a fiber optic
light panel for decal illumination. Individual position lighting of the decal panel is available.
