UEA Donates Slip Ring for Wind Turbine Training

June 23, 2009

Early this year, Texas State Technical College Program Chair for Wind Energy, Dan Templeton approached United Equipment Accessories with an inquiry regarding custom wind slip rings. The college program is focused on wind energy training efforts for future wind leaders and looked toward UEA for their highly regarded wind slip ring. “It is my philosophy that a comprehensive Wind Energy training program should incorporate as much hands-on lab work as possible. Sure we can teach our students about the slip ring and show pictures, but that will not adequately prepare them to go and repair one or determine if and how it needs repaired,” states Wind Energy Program Chair Dan Templeton.

UEA’s head design engineer Brent Jensen, aided Templeton with the slip ring choice for the training as well as provided more in depth information about slip rings. The donation of the slip ring to TSTC is something that United Equipment Accessories finds valuable to the future of the wind industry. “It’s important that future wind leaders are educated on how the slip ring provides power for the turbine”, stated Jensen, “and that is why this donation was an easy decision.” When looking for companies to include in the wind training program, Templeton wanted products that are the most efficient and the longest lasting. “Your slip rings meet those criteria”, Templeton said in conversation with Jensen.

United Equipment Accessories is the leading manufacturer of quality slip rings. The demanding wind market has allowed UEA to expand their company in size and employees. Thousands of wind turbine slip rings will be made this year at United Equipment Accessories for top energy leaders. Those turbines will be placed all over the United States, Canada and Europe. “We are excited to be contributing to the green revolution of windpower. We serve our customers’ needs but know that we are also serving the benefit of our environment and world.” States Mark Hanawalt, president of UEA. “It’s important to us to make a contribution to renewable energy and its education.”
