Swing Bridge Slip Ring
This project involved the design and engineering of a replacement slip ring for a unit that had been in operation for over 50 years. The function of the ring is to provide power and control to rotate the swing bridge allowing barge navigation. The slip ring was originally contained in a 7' x 3' x 3' fabricated wood enclosure and suspended by structural steel and hardware from the bridge tower. The condition of this slip ring had deteriorated to the point of unreliability forcing the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to seek out a replacement that will offer many years of service.
This newly engineered replacement slip ring consists of: 30 - 45A / 120V Circuits and 7 - 250A / 600V Circuits with a 6.00" center bore. The unit is completely enclosed in a 4' x 24" x 18" AISI 304 Stainless Steel NEMA 3R Gasketed Enclosure with 3-point latching doors.
